# Connect Hermes Agent

This guide uses a personal access token. For OAuth, contact support with your client's exact callback URI before connecting. See [client compatibility](../connect-ai-agents.md#client-compatibility).

Create a token with the **MCP** scope in [Reconstruct Platform settings](https://reconstruct.dev/platform/), as described in [Personal access token](../connect-ai-agents.md#personal-access-token).

## Configure the server

Add the token to your local `~/.hermes/.env`:

```dotenv
CR_RECONSTRUCT_MCP_TOKEN=<your MCP token>
```

Add `reconstruct` to `mcp_servers` in `~/.hermes/config.yaml`. Preserve existing server entries:

```yaml
mcp_servers:
  reconstruct:
    url: "https://reconstruct.dev/mcp"
    headers:
      Authorization: "Bearer ${CR_RECONSTRUCT_MCP_TOKEN}"
```

Hermes uses Streamable HTTP by default for URL-based servers. Keep the token in `.env`; Hermes expands the variable in the header. For a named profile, edit that profile's configuration and `.env` instead.

## Check the connection

Start Hermes, or run `/reload-mcp` in an existing session. Ask it to call `mcp__reconstruct__list_products`.

See the official [Hermes MCP guide](https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/user-guide/features/mcp) and [configuration reference](https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/reference/mcp-config-reference). If connection fails, check [troubleshooting](../connect-ai-agents.md#troubleshooting). Next, try the [prompt examples](../prompt-examples.md).
